Since an exhibition held at Poush in 2024, Maxime Testu has been exploring the relationship between everyday objects of rural life and painting. Moving from landscape to object, he reverses their scale and significance: the simplest objects take on the stature of monumen- tal paintings, while landscapes become intimate images.

In this renewed dialogue with folk and vernacular forms, the artist brings a heightened attention to color and materiality. Working on unprimed canvas, he applies multiple washes before a charcoal line emerges to define and give presence to the form.
